Zookeepers at Bremerhaven Zoo in Germany found a clever way to spare a penguin egg that had been rejected by its parents. They gave it to a mated pair of male penguins to raise, who both rose to the challenge.
Vielpunkt and Z, a pair of inseparable male penguins that resisted attempts by zookeepers to mate them with females, immediately accepted the egg that was placed in their care. The couple took turns incubating the egg for 35 days until it hatched and then proceeded to fiercely guard the chick, which they now both regurgitate food to feed. [UPI]
