Russian Cruise Companies May Be Offering Pirate Hunting Cruises

pirates
An Austrian newspaper has claimed that Russian cruise companies are offering wealthy passengers a chance to go pirate hunting off the Somali coast.

Wirtschafts Blatt has reported that wealthy tourists are hunting for pirates off the coast of Somalia for the cost of $5790 per day. In an effort to attract pirate attack, the ships are said to cruise deliberately close to the coast at a speed of only five knots. If attacked, passengers have the opportunity to unleash hell with rocket launchers, grenade launchers and machine guns.

AK-47 rental on the pirate cruises is apparently just $5 per day, with 100 rounds costing $12 and just in case things get out of control, a squad of ex special forces troops is on hand.

Russian yachtsman Vladimir Mironov is said to have remarked:

They are worse than the pirate. At least the pirates have the decency to take hostages, these people are just paying to commit murder.

Goldman Morgenstern & Partners believe that the story is a hoax. What do you think?

It’s a joke. http://www.somalicruises.com/ Notice how there’s no way to actually sign up for such a cruise. Also, you can’t get ammo that cheap.

You know, this poses some interesting problems, if true.

Is it not then a matter of pirate (technically) against pirate?

Will the Russian government give these vessels letters of marque granting them the power to take Somali craft in international waters?

If they venture into Somali waters, could the Somalis declare war on Russia?

Might this approach be tectically more viable than sending larger official naval craft after these people? It seems the Russian craft will be smaller and more maneuverable, which is the advantage the Somalis have.

And really, if these Russians get killed chasing the Somali pirates, would anyone cry over such people?

I know. I’m sounding hardassed. But really, they ARE paying big bucks to go out and kill the Somalis. If they get killed, their authentic experience just gets more authentic, right?

People always ask me how I can say I’m not really nice. This is why.

This is a great example of the private sector getting involved in solving an international problem. We Americans have been trying to use the private sector whenever possible, until recently when the liberal Democrats took over our federal government.

The essence of capitalism is risk and reward. Lt looks as thought the Russians have come to understand this concept on a whole new level.

If you live by sword you should be ready to die by the sword. let Vladimir Mironov become a hostage as he thinks that it is OK to take hostage.

Seems wrong on so many levels but nonetheless I laughed when I read it.

The movie, “The Gamer”, with Gerard Butler, comes to mind.

How is this showing that Russians are being worse.  I don’t agree!  I think that when attacked, you can save yourself.  They are doing innocent victims a huge favor; like the couple from California that died there (quite famous in their own right).  I’m sad that not all other people can see it.

    Russia FTW!!

I think it would be outstanding if the US started issuing Letters of Marque again… I’d be there in a hot second.

IF THIS IS TRUE THEN I SAY GO FOR IT. IF THESE PIRATES WISH TO ATTACK AND HOLD THE SHIP, CREW AND PASSENGERS HOSTAGE THEN THEY ARE NOTHING BUT THUGS AND SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE ANYWAY POSSIBLE. MAYBE THESE PIRATES WILL STOP ALL OF THIS AFTER SEVERAL BOATS ARE SUNK AND THE ONES IN IT KILLED. AS FOR THIS BEING A HOAX, THE ONE THING THAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION IS THE COST FOR THE TRIP, 5790.00 A DAY. WHY NOT 5800.00 OR 5700?
