Scottish Brewery Aims To Reduce Binge Drinking With World’s Strongest Beer

Scottish beer maker BrewDog’s latest drop, dubbed Tokyo, is most certainly up there with the most potent beers on the market. It contains a staggering 12% alcohol, a fact which BrewDog believes might go some way to curbing binge drinking.

The argument put forward by brewer is that the strength of the beer and the “complexity” of the flavor mean that it will be drunk slowly and that most people will only drink one.

According to a spokesperson for the company:

We are all for responsible consumption, we want people to enjoy beers in moderation. We want them to drink less beer but beer with flavor.

The company describes the process of producing their heady brew:

This imperial stout is brewed with copious amounts of specialty malts, jasmine and cranberries. After fermentation we then dry-hop this killer stout with a bucketload of our favorite hops before carefully aging the beer on French toasted oak chips.

With a price tag of GBP £9.99 per bottle, binge drinkers will probably opt for cheaper fare.
