Allen Stanford Back In Jail After Prison Beating

Submitted by C. S. Magor on Tuesday, 29 September 2009No Comment | Google Buzz |

stanford
Allen Stanford has been returned to the Joe Corley Detention Facility in Texas after a fight with another inmate on Thursday left him with a broken nose, two black eyes and a mild concussion.

Stanford, 59, is awaiting trial over an alleged fraud that netted $7 billion. If found guilty of all 21 charges against him, he faces the prospect of life in prison.

Kent Schaffer, his court-appointed attorney, shared his thoughts:

I don’t have any reason to believe that he was targeted in some way because of who he is. He’s in reasonably good spirits although he was feeling a lot of physical discomfort. He was trying to get rest yesterday afternoon after he returned to the jail.

Stanford denies that he operated a Ponzi scheme.
