A 61-year-old Florida woman was sentenced to one year and one day of prison after she kept her dead mother’s body in a bedroom for years in order to continue collecting pension benefits.

Penelope Sharon Jordan, of Sebastian, Florida, pleaded guilty to theft of government funds. By the time her crime was discovered, her mother had been dead for at least six years; an autopsy revealed no signs of foul play.

Over the six years, Jordan collected $61,415 in Social Security payments and a $176,461 from the military pension. She was ordered to repay the entire sum.
