A 24-year-old female kindergarten teacher in south-west China has been arrested over claims that she stabbed more than 20 students with a syringe in order to discipline them.

Sun Qiqi, a teacher at an unlicensed school, was arrested after parents complained about the alleged abuse. One three-year-old boy was said to have eight needle wounds, he was allegedly being disciplined for refusing to take a nap.

The Global Times reports that Sun Qiqi has confessed to the charges, stating that she was overwhelmed by the large number of students in her charge and that she was attempting to “tame” them. Sun was reportedly responsible for 37 three- and four-year-olds.

The China Daily reports that all children were given ultrasound tests and that HIV tests for all of them were negative.
