Arkansas Police Officer Tases 10-year-old

It has been reported that a police officer in Ozark, Arkansas used a “very, very brief” shock from his Taser to help subdue a 10-year-old girl so that she could be taken to a youth shelter.

Officer Dustin Bradshaw came to the home of the girl at the request of her mother and found her on the floor of the house, screaming and crying.

Police say that when the girl refused the mother’s orders to go with the officer, the mother requested that Bradshaw use his Taser. He initially refused, until the girl began kicking and struck him in the groin.

That is the point at which Officer Bradshaw is said to have deployed his Taser. According to his report, he administered a “very, very brief” stun to the child. She was then handcuffed, carried to his patrol car and taken to the Western Arkansas Youth Shelter in Cecil.

This could easily be described as a traumatic event for an adult, let alone a ten-year-old girl, but one has to wonder whether this girl might be being out of the care of a mother that believes that a Taser is an appropriate way to subdue her own child. The town’s mayor has called for an investigation into the event to determine whether Bradshaw’s Taser use was appropriate.
