After become concerned about the amount of time her retired husband was spending on the Internet, and seeing a saucy chat message on his computer, 61-year-old Cheryl Roberts decided to perform an investigation.
The message that popped up on the computer of 68-year-old David Roberts’ computer read:
You are a f…… beautiful bitch.
It was signed “Corky”, which was his nickname.
Upon seeing the message and becoming suspicious, Cheryl created a chat profile of her own, that of a 14-year-old schoolgirl, which she used to initiate a conversation with her husband – she then as he pursued her.
As the relationship continued she watched (via webcam) as her husband proceeded to “carry out acts of indecency on himself.” She then called the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children to report his actions.
A raid of the family home revealed dozens of images of child pornography. David Roberts insisted that he had not had sex with any underage girls but admitted that he was “prepared to do so.” He was sentenced to a three-year community order and barred from contacting children under 18 either online or in person.
After 20 years of marriage, the couple has now divorced.
