A 25-year-old Toronto woman who was apparently driving the influence is said to have been involved in a road-rage incident that ended with a spectacular crash off a cliff into the Humber river.
The incident allegedly began when the accused woman Ngoc Tran, 25, and 32-year-old Roland Branko became involved in an altercation. When the man drove away, she gave chase.
According to Const. Hugh Smith of Toronto police traffic services:
She ended up chasing the gentleman down Stephen Dr., bumping him repeatedly, and then bumped him off to the right at the end of the road.
The collision in which she ran the Brankooff the road occurred on Stephen Dr., described as “a quiet 40 km/h dead-end street in south Etobicoke that ends with a wrought-iron fence and the cliff.”
While the man’s Chrysler 300 ended up in some bushes close to the edge of a cliff, Tran’s Pontiac Bonneville crashed through the fence, flipped in the air and plunged 25 meters into the water.
After landing in the Humber, Tran is said to have then swum to safety before returning to her car to retrieve something that she had left in it. Unfortunately for her, she didn’t retrieve the bottle of sambuca, mickey of vodka, crushed Tetrapack of Pinot Grigio wine and empty beer can that police investigators later found in her car.
Tran is due to appear in court again on Tuesday. She has been described as well enough to face charges, with only an injury to her arm being the only physical problem requiring treatment. Branko was taken to hospital with minor neck and back injuries.
