If you thought you had a lousy Christmas, consider the plight of Jimmy Halpin. The 54-year-old, who had lost his wife to stomach cancer just weeks before, died from head and neck injuries sustained when he slipped on ice at his mother’s grave on Christmas Day.

His 29-year-old daughter Margaret Hardy told the Daily Mail:

We’re living a nightmare. It’s unbelievable what we’re going through. Dad was loving and quiet. He would do anything you asked of him. He kept himself to himself and was a family man. He was devastated when mum passed away. He was a broken man. My 22-year-old brother John was living at home with mum and dad and now he is there on his own. It’s so upsetting. We’re all in shock.

The 54-year-old builder had visited his mother’s grave every Christmas to lay a wreath and was walking next his sister Frances when he slipped on the path. It has been suggested that the cemetery had not been properly gritted.
