The general manager of the Chilean mint is out of a job thanks to an embarrassing mix-up: he was at the helm when they minted a coin that misspelled “Chile”.
The Telegraph reports that more than a million coins that spelled “Chile” with no Ls and two Is were minted in 2008; as can be seen in the title image. The mistake was only noticed late last year.
The coins remain in circulation, but are being hoarded by collectors out of hopes that they will increase in value in the future.
Personally, I think the guy probably does deserve to get fired, after all he comes from Chile not Liechtenstein.
