PETA Wants Knut’s Nuts


Berlin, Germany: The German chapter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has asked for celebrity polar bear Knut to be castrated because he and a female companion share the same grandfather.

According to PETA’s zoo expert, Frank Albrecht, any offspring that Knut and his cousin Giovanna produce would “threaten the genetic diversity of the polar bear population in Germany” and risk “incest depression.”

Albrecht explained to News.com:

Knut fans need to know that only Knut’s castration would allow a long life together with Giovanna

The two polar bears have become close since they were introduced when the zoo renovated Gianna’s enclosure.

    Poor lad!

    Endogamy isn’t as serious for animals as it is for humans because it’s more common nonetheless it should be avoided whenever possible
