Man sues for being deported to wrong country

A man is suing the Swedish government 17 years after they deported him to the wrong country.

Peter Ekweri, was deported to Ghana after the Swedish Aliens Appeals Board decided that he was Ghanan. In his lawsuit, Ekweri – a Ugandan – claims that a police inspector guaranteed that he would be provided with transportation out of Ghana if he could prove that he was from another country. Ekweri described what happened next to Swedish daily The Local:

In his own words, he explained:

They locked me up and tortured me. The other prisoners harassed me continually.

For the record, Ghana and Uganda are on opposite sides of Africa.
