Police miss knife in dead man’s back

Kent, United Kingdom: British police in called to the home of 66-year-old Antoine Denis by worried neighbors apparently had other things on their mind than the dead guy slumped on his back in the bedroom.

Presumably, they chalked the up to natural causes – because the undertakers called the police back to tell them that there was a knife in his back. You would think that they would have looked there.

Coroner Roger Sykes recorded the finding that Denis had died from a single stab wound that had penetrated his lung and that his death was “the unlawful act of a person whose identity has not yet been established.”

Detective Constable Linda Robb explained that police had failed to spot the knife because it was “dark in the flat” and the victim was lying on his back.

You’d think that that they would have thought to turn on the light.
