Passengers tackle fake-bomb hijacker

Passengers on a Turkish Airlines flight from Oslo to Istanbul overpowered a man who was attempting to hijack their plane using a fake bomb.

The would-be hijacker, a Turk, indicated that he was carrying a bomb and instructed that the plane should return to Norway. He was overpowered by passengers as he tried to make his way to the cockpit. A passenger sat on the man until he could be removed by police at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport.

As it turned out, the device that he was carrying was not explosive – a passenger described it as looking “like a radio handset.” [The Age; Image (Reuters via Al Jazeera)]
