Sometimes, telling your students to sit down and be quiet just isn’t enough.
Barbara Neeley, a teacher’s aide and teacher in Georgia, was caught on camera employing pepper spray to discipline a pair of students who refused to sit down in class. The kicker: While one student was unaffected, the other, treated by a school nurse, suffered from mild retardation, ADHD and OCD.
While I’ve heard of some unorthodox tactics used to enforce classroom discipline – from the old-fashioned yardstick to the more modern ‘duct tape them to a chair’ trick – nothing quite beats the sting of atomized skin irritants. Neeley has since resigned from her post. [Source]
