Last month, Fredric Baur, inventor of the original Pringles can, passed away at the age of 89. And following his last wishes, Baur was buried in the can he helped to invent.
When he first began to consider the humble receptacle as a serious option for internment in the 1980s, his children believed he was joking. He was not. So, decades later, the Baur descendants found themselves debating semantics:
“My siblings and I briefly debated what flavor to use,” Baur says, “but I said, ‘Look, we need to use the original.'”
