Look out, WikiLeaks!
While the US government is scrambling to assemble a criminal case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, David Pitchford is doing his part, claiming $150 million worth of damages in a lawsuit against WikiLeaks and its founder.
The Florida resident, whose legal papers indicate a less-than-perfect grasp of English grammar and a possibly broken caps lock key, claims the following were caused by WikiLeaks and Assange:
A. A worsening of Plantiffs hyper tention;
B. A worsening of Plaintiffs depression;
C. A Worsenig of Plaintiff’s Stress;
D. Living in constant fear of being stricken by another heart attack and or stroke as a result of the foregoing;
E. In fear of being on the brink of Nucliar WAR
On a list of legal woes compiled against WikiLeaks and ordered by legitimacy, Pitchford’s lawsuit would settle very near the bottom; it is, without a doubt, the definition of a frivolous lawsuit. But in the interest of journalistic integrity, blogger superkuh interviewed Pitchford via phone and published the result. My favorite line, profoundly indicative of the plaintiff’s mental state:
Pitchford said he did not believe that any internet based medium could be a real member of the press. I brought up Wikileaks’ long-standing (in internet time) collaboration with The Guardian; a member of the old media and physical press if there ever was one. He stated that he might have to look into suing them too; as an aside he mentioned the AP was also liable for just talking about the leaks. It seemed natural to ask him about the Pentagon papers. He said that if he were around back then he would’ve sued Ellsberg too.
The icing on the cake, Pitchford seems to be representing himself.
