That sweet, innocent looking little old lady in the wheelchair is a 95-year-old former nurse who is stricken with leukemia and has taken to wearing adult diapers for incontinence problems. At least I think she’s sweet and innocent looking—the Transportation Security Administration at the Northwest Florida Regional Airport thought otherwise.
They felt that this elderly, frail woman needed to be patted-down, which unfortunately included the removal of this poor woman’s soiled diaper.
The incident took place June 18 as the unidentified 95-year-old and her daughter, Jean Weber, were attempting to visit relatives in Michigan. The ladies didn’t know that it’s TSA policy to search everyone in wheelchairs.
Not sure what their policy is on soiled adult diapers though, but it seems they are prone to searches as well.

Weber said that her mother was detained for 45 minutes. She was first taken into a glass-partitioned area for a pat-down and then to another private room for additional screening. Weber said that security personnel emerged from the room and asked that her mother remove the diaper, which was soiled, in order to complete the search. Weber took her mother to the bathroom and removed the diaper; Weber’s mother did not have another clean diaper with her.
Weber has since filed a complaint with the Department of Homeland Security over her mother’s ordeal and the treatment she received from TSA agents. TSA, meanwhile, stands by their officers, determining that they “acted professionally and according to proper procedure.”
