North Korea has gathered a stockpile of weapons-grade uranium large enough to construct six nuclear bombs.

It has been estimated that the North has the capability of producing nearly 40kg of highly enriched uranium per year; this means that by 2014 they will be able to double their stockpile.

The North Koreans claim that the uranium is for energy production but the rest of the world is dubious of such a notion; weapons-grade uranium is only used in the manufacture of weapons. The technology is incompatible with the technology used to produce power-generating nuclear reactors.

So far their nuclear program has cost them nearly $7 billion. This represents almost 25% of their gross domestic product; to put this in perspective, this is the same amount that the USA spends on healthcare.
