Two 19-year-old men have some explaining to do after one of them was bitten by a venomous snake that they admitted to stealing from a nature center.
Travis Stotts and Dennis Watson of Clarksville, Indiana are expected to be arrested after they admitted entering O’Bannon Woods State Park Nature Center through an unlocked door and stealing an Eastern Massasauga rattlesnake.
Apparently one rattlesnake wasn’t enough, and on May 10 they returned for a second – a juvenile timber rattler, and that was where their plan came unstuck. In the process of capturing the snake, Stotts was bitten by what is described as one of the most dangerous species of snakes in North America.
Stotts was treated for the snakebite at Harrison County Hospital, and the pair were charged with felony theft, burglary and misdemeanor unlawful taking or possession of an endangered species soon after. [Image: Creative Commons; UPI]
