As of January 1, 2010, marijuana users in the town of Breckenridge, Colorado will be able to enjoy their drug of choice in the privacy of their own homes without fear of prosecution.
In November the town voted to legalize possession of up to one ounce of cannabis and furthermore to legalize possession of cannabis paraphernalia. It will remain illegal to grow, buy, sell or publicly use the drug, and heavy penalties will be imposed upon people who take to the slopes under the influence.
Although the drug remains illegal under Federal and Colorado state law, authorities expect that there will not be any interference from state or federal authorities.
