One Thousand Marijuana Plants Discovered In Fortune Cookie Factory

Oakland police are on the hunt for the people responsible for growing 1,000 marijuana plants in a former fortune cookie factory.

According to CBS, the plants were discovered after a small fire at the Kar Mee Fortune Cookie Factory in the Chinatown district of Oakland. Police estimated the value of the crop at approximately $500,000 and ranged in size from seedlings to four feet in height. They were not burned in the fire.

An investigation is underway, as it was not immediately obvious who is responsible for the crop; the cookie factory’s previous owners were evicted last year. Electricity used to run the lights, ventilation and irrigation systems was provided by way of an old power line from outside the building.
