In a yearly display of seasonal kindness, a Kobe faction of Japan’s largest crime syndicate, the Yamaguchi gumi, handed out gifts of cash to local children.
Children in Japan are annually presented with gifts of money contained in small envelopes at the end of the year, but moms and dads are going to have to dig quite deep if they want to match the gangsters’ levels of generosity, their envelopes contained up to 30,000 yen (more than $300) a piece.
Mainichi News reports that the gifts were handed out bearing the names “Tsukasa” or “Takayama.” “Tsukasa” comes from the name of the boss of the syndicate, Kenichi Shinoda, who is commonly known as Shinobo Tsukasa, while the “Takayama” is the surname of the underboss.
