4Chan sends Bieber to N. Korea

The merry band of sometimes creepy pranksters that inhabit 4Chan has spread some of its love in Justin Bieber’s direction.

Justin Bieber ran a Twitter contest in which he allowed fans to nominate his next destination. Anonymous did his or her thing and the boards listened. Two days and half-a-million clicks later and North Korea seems to have been securely locked in place.

From the BBC:

The contest, which ends at 1800 on 7 July, saw North Korea move from 24th to 1st place in less than two days, several thousand votes ahead of Israel.

Given the fact that almost all citizens of North Korea are denied internet access and there are restrictive controls over all media, it is unlikely that any of the votes have actually come from within the country.

A spokesman for the North Korean Embassy in London told BBC News that any application for 16-year-old Bieber to tour would be dealt with by its mission to the United Nations, although the matter would be referred to Pyongyang.

While the BBC has stated that it is not known whether or not Dear Leader is a Bieber fan, it has previously been reported that he is an avid consumer of popular culture – so you never know.
