Dummkopf self-detonates dismantling found grenade

A 53-year-old Croatian man is in a serious condition after he decided disassemble a hand grenade that he found while out on a walk.

The man, who has been identified as Marko S. found the unexploded grenade, a remnant from the 1991-95 Homeland War, in a field near his home in Knin. Instead of doing the responsible thing and call the bomb squad, Marko took it home; where he hoped to take it apart so that he could sell it for scrap metal.

Once home he took the grenade into his garage, started up his grinder and started cutting into a live explosive device – when it did what it was designed to do. He was taken to a local hospital where his condition was listed as serious. [Croatian Times]
