Have you heard of Kurt Browning? As the picture above suggests, he is a figure skater, a former Canadian and World champion of the sport, to be exact – and if recent events are anything to go by, he may not a smart man.
His recent problems started with his Porsche. The top was down out in the rain and the seats got wet and the familiar musty smell of luxury car interior started to set in… they needed to be dried. Thinking outside the box, Browning picked up a leaf blower – surely he could count on the large volume of air movement generated by the machine to restore the dryness of his prized vehicle. On its own, it might not have been a bad idea, but leaf blowing the inside of a Porsche is not something that can be accomplished in a few minutes – probably not even in a few hours. It is not known if boredom motivated his actions, but we can presume that it did. Rather than supervising the potential fire hazard in action, Browning went into the house.
What happened next is not exactly clear, but reports go something like this: Browning noticed that his garage was on fire and returned with a fire extinguisher but was no match for the growing inferno, so he fled with one of his kids and a painter who was working on his multi-million-dollar mansion. It took 80 firefighters three hours to put out the blaze.
Damage to the house has been estimated at a cool million – plus don’t forget the Porsche. The moral of the story, while the price of hiring a professional to do something that you think you can do yourself might sometimes sound high, some things are more difficult and dangerous than they appear – and professionals have insurance.
