Arsonist identified by severed fingertip

The two gentlemen that you see in the mugshots to your left are Samuel “Sammy” Davis (sans hair) and 24-year-old Ismael Ortiz – they are in hot water over a little insurance-related arson incident in which they may or may not have taken part.

Police say that Davis paid Ortiz to set fire to his house so that he could collect the insurance money. Ortiz is said to have done most of the job right, he even wore latex gloves to cover his tracks. Police discovered this because the tip of one of his gloves was found at the crime scene with a little piece of finger still inside. What happened? According to Detective Jessica Edens, “he slammed his finger in the door” as he tried to make his escape.

Ortiz and finger were reunited by police at a hospital a short time later. [Boing Boing]
