Some people just don’t know when to quit, like Cathy Cruz Marrero, the 49-year-old woman who fell into a mall fountain while texting.
Mall security cameras captured her from several angles striding nonchalantly straight into the fountain, then getting up and walking away as though nothing had happened. Upon leaving, and then finding out that she had become a minor morning news sensation, Marrero announced that she would be suing the mall based on the fact that she left before any mall security personnel could help her (or, her spin on it, no security helped her in the twenty minutes it took to rush out of the mall and leave).
Of course, her arguments are all rhetorical: “What if it was a senior citizen?” First off, I don’t know too many senior citizens who text, and second, she’s not a senior citizen, so she might as well argue “What if I fell into a fountain of lava?” or “What if I was a Ming vase?” Plus, her argument that the mall’s staff was negligent is rendered moot by a janitor who approached her at the end of the video to make sure she was okay.
Evidently, this won’t prevent her from suing the mall. Some people just have to make lemons out of good lemonade.
