British couple find a log that vaguely looks like E.T. and make the news!

Mr and Mrs Burford, of Eldersfield, Gloucestershire, were cutting down a Poplar tree to make firewood, when Mr.Burford noticed that the tree rings inside kinda looked like E.T., from the popular 1980s Spielberg movie.

I’ll admit that it’s uncommon to find two rings in the same tree stump, but we’re hardly talking about something incredible. Take the actual E.T. for example, he has two big eyes, a comparatively small squashed nose and only a tiny mouth. Anything with two large circles can be interpreted as at least “looking like E.T.”. And that grouping of concentric circles in the log kinda looks like Mr Burford with a toupee on. Also, while we’re at it, Mrs Burford looks a bit like Frasier’s dad and add a Groucho mustache to Mr Burfurd, and you half expect to find him smoking a cigar, telling one liners: “Take my wife, please take my wife…”.

If we base ourselves on that criteria than Cookie’s dog, Wednesday The Pug, must have played E.T. in the original movie, and Macaulay Culkin is Steve Buscemi’s stunt double. Keep in mind, many studies have shown, that the human brain tends to recognize faces by “connecting the dots” almost everywhere, Mazda have based their current 3 model on just that fact, and have designed a car that is like a smiling clown barelling down at you at 45 Mph when you look at it from the front. In a way, we’re lucky the stump doesn’t look like William Shatner or Patrick Stewart or Scott Bakula, otherwise we’d have to refer to it as “Captain’s Log”.

To further their story, Burford’s wife, Sylvia, claims to have had an odd experience 40 years ago. “I saw something that had a saucer shape with a great big bright light underneath,” she said. To which I’d like to add; Me too, just last night, it was a lamp-post. Having said that I wish them both all the best, they look like a cute couple, captain’s log and all.
