Archaeologists unearthed the 5,000-year-old remains of what they believe to be a gay or transsexual male outside of Prague in the Czech Republic. Deductions as to his sexual orientation are backed by the fact he was buried in the same way a woman would have been buried at that time.
During the Corded Ware culture (which started late in the Stone Age) funeral rites were extremely important. Men were buried on their right side, heads pointed west and surrounded by weapons.
Women were buried on their left side surrounded by the tools of their domestic duties. And this was how the thought to be gay caveman was found.
It’s a remarkable discovery as it is the first of it’s kind and can mean homosexuality has been a part of humanity since the days of the Neanderthal.
While he might be the oldest known homosexual man, previous archeologist digs have discovered a female warrior who was buried as a man. Which could mean she was the world’s oldest known lesbian. Or just a typical woman – who can fight and cook. [ Telegraph | Image]
