A truck possibly carrying over 500 dogs was immobilized by an animal rights activist in eastern Bejing. The man swerved his car to stop the truck, then microblogged his actions to call in other activists. Animal rights activists and pet lovers have recently begun to hamper the theft of cats and dogs by shady meat dealers who then sold, mostly the cats, to local markets in China, where cat meat is particularly popular.
The consumption of dog and cat meat, both of which are believed to promote bodily warmth and are thus popular in winter, remains widespread in China despite a surge in popularity as pets.
Some of the pets that were clearly stolen from their owners, still were wearing their collars and tags. Meanwhile, here I was, thinking it was all just a myth, and that the traditional Chinese people did not, in fact, eat barbecued Pussi.
This is sick, this is why we will never truely understand China when they not only eat, but relish cats and dogs for dinner. Same with them eating endangered tigers, NOT acceptable!
