Some might say it’s a spectacle to see but the roosters wearing the glasses would probably say the opposite.
A Chinese farmer who was frustrated with his constantly fighting roosters has fashioned them with glasses so they’d stop attacking each other. Instead of helping the birds see better they keep them from looking straight ahead so they can’t make eye contact with other roosters and start a fight.
Zhang Xiaolong, who lives in Xiamen, says he was losing up to 10 roosters a day before he thought of glasses to block their vision.
“I was inspired by my own glasses and thought if I could just block their view so they can’t see each other directly, they wouldn’t have fights.”
And it’s working. Xiaolong says fights are minimized and he’s happy.
As innovative as it sounds this isn’t the first time for four eyes chickens.
It’s thought the practice stems back to the 1950’s because UK education officer Tracey Lloyd found a similar pair of chicken glasses on an old allotment site. The glasses are now on display at London’s British Optical Association Museum.[Metro]
