An online ad looking for top heavy virgins to pick tea leaves for the Henan Gushi Xijuhua Scenic Mountain Development Co. might sound like a it’s coming directly from the mouths of chauvinistic males who want to watch as they pick. But hold off on making hasty conclusions.
The idea is actually steeped in tradition.
During the early 1900’s 16-year old virgins picked tea in the middle of the night and put the leaves in between their breasts to insure the leaves would absorb some of their yin (feminine scent) making the tea taste so much better.
And this is what the new modern day version of the tea is trying to recreate. Except for what I can tell, this time the virgins put the leaves in their mouths before spitting them into the cup that hangeth between their breast.
Weird as it sounds the girls are getting paid 500-yuan (roughly $76) daily which is pretty good for many parts of China.
Another part of the job description states the girls must perform the “Virgin Lips Tea” performance at a tea festival mid-May… which sounds disturbing no matter which way you look at it. [Weird Asia News]
