One-percenter pile-up claims 8 Ferraris, three Mercedes-Benzes, a Lamborghini… and a Prius

A Sunday exotic car club meet ended in tears in Japan on Sunday when 13 of its members were involved in a 14-car pile-up. The accident caused significant damage to eight Ferraris, three Mercedes-Benzes, a Lamborghini and minor damage to a Prius, whose driver was presumably not in the club.

A police officer who attended the scene explained that it appeared that one of the Mercedes Benzes had been driving in the oncoming lane at the time of the accident at a point in the highway where the highway curved to the left. A witness to the accident, who was driving the other way said that the cars were “making a tremendous noise“.

The tally included “at least two Ferrari F430s (one of which was a Scuderia), two Ferrari 360 Modenas, two Ferrari F355s, a Lamborghini Diablo, a Nissan GTR, a Toyota Prius. There is, as of yet, no word the models of the Mercedes Benzes that were involved. As for the human toll, ten people were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Seriously though, if you want to overtake a Prius, don’t head into oncoming traffic while driving around a bend.
