This reminds me of a story I heard from an English teacher who was working in Japan. Her first year there she walked into a shopping mall to see Santa Claus in the midst of their Christmas display, but someone hadn’t done their homework or else they were confused with Easter and Christmas because their display was Santa as Jesus hanging from a cross. Something gets lost in cultural translation…
In South Korea, to get into the festive season, security guards at one mall are wearing Santa Claus suits for the season. During the day they hand out candies and do demonstrations of their tae kwon do skills. It’s impressive to watch since a couple of the guards clearly can’t see from under Santa’s bushy eyebrows.
