FBI shackles Blu-ray and DVD industry with insulting “educational” notices

The new unskippable "educational" message.

The new unskippable "educational" message.

The US government is mandating that all new DVD and Blu-ray discs prominently feature warnings and new copyright “education”.

This means that all future discs will have two unskippable notices: the first being the standard FBI anti-piracy warning. The second is a notice from the National Intellectual Property Coordination Centre that seeks to educate people on the negative effects of piracy.

The education “campaign” hopes that people will begin to understand that piracy adversely affects the economy; the irony being that the policy will likely have a torporous effect on DVD and Blu-ray sales.

Consumers now have to wait through a total 20 seconds of messages; this type of warning is not present in any other medium .
