Frenchman shot by own dog during hunting cuddle

A Frenchman had his hand partially amputated after being shot by his own hunting dog near Saint-Michel-de-Double in southwestern France.

The rifle had been left without the safety on when two of the three hunting dogs spotted, and took off towards a deer. The third dog remained near its master and decided to leap onto him to give him a cuddle. In doing so, it put a paw on the trigger which fired the shot.

The man, only identified as Rene was taken by helicopter to a Bordeaux hospital but sadly his hand had to be partially amputated. Rene holds no hard feelings towards the dog he still describes as adorable. He prefers to blame himself for not setting the safety on the rifle.

The story doesn’t say but I suspect the deer got away.
