So did you hear the one of the man who took a home pregnancy test and it came back positive?
Might sound like an urban legend but it is indeed a story of truth. And consequence. It’s also the story of finding cancer in a very early stage.
Cartoonist CappnPoopdeck posted on his Reddit a strip depicting a man who found a home pregnancy test in his house, presumably from an ex-girlfriend. Just for fun the man decided to try it. After peeing on the stick he got the positive sign showing him he was pregnant.
Turns out the subject of the cartoon was a friend of CappnPoopdeck but the animators followers didn’t know this. Many concerned comments were posted, roughly 1500 in total, a lot telling him to get checked for testicular cancer. CappnPoopdeck told his friend who did get tested and the doctor found a small lump.
What pregnancy tests do is look for a type of hormone – beta human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) – in urine and many kinds of testicular cancer produces the same hormone which is how CappnPoopdeck’s friend was able to detect his cancer so early.
Moral of the story? For roughly $10 men can easily check themselves for testicular cancer. Which is a good thing if you think about it. [ Source. ]
