Inconceivable! Airline passengers “Princess Bride” t-shirt causes problem on flight

It’s easily the most quoted line from the 1987 classic The Princess Bride, so much so that some 25 years later the line is popping up on t-shirts everywhere, including an Australia to New Zealand bound Qantas flight.  You’d think a shirt with the quote “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die” would maybe illicit a few chuckles from the fellow passengers, and not freak them out at all.

You’d think that, and you’d be wrong.

Pictured is Wynand Mullins, comfortably clothed in his Princess Bride shirt as he heads for New Zealand.  Except that Mullins had to endure a bit of hassle from the Qantas crew, because his shirt somehow had intimidated the other passengers, due to the “Prepare to die” portion of Mandy Patinkin’s famous quote.

From Stuff..

“The flight attendant said to me: ‘Are you able to remove it because some of the passengers are quite intimidated by it’. I thought it was all a bit silly. The person next to me was laughing, because they knew the movie.”

Mr Mullins said he didn’t have another shirt to wear and hoped he would get to wear a pilot’s shirt – but wondered how the other passengers would then react to that.

The flight attendant left in search of another T-shirt but never returned – and didn’t make eye contact with Mr Mullins again.

Mullins thinks his treatment by the Qantas flight attendant—all because of an innocuous t-shirt—was a bit over the top.  A bit over the top?  It was downright nutty, considering another airline let this guy onto a flight with no problem whatsoever.

Obviously those people “intimidated” by Mullins’ shirt have never seen The Princess Bride, which is a shame because it is a gem of a little movie.  And if they ever do get to see it, maybe they’ll realize how silly they were to cause such a kerfuffle over a shirt emblazoned with this awesome line…
