It’s a bird… it’s a plane… it’s… it’s… a giant bunny????
A British family in Plymoth, Devon were saved from a home robbery after the thief was scared off by their giant rabbit, Toby.
As far as Kimberley May and police can figure out is a robber broke into their house after her, her fiance Martin, and their three-year-old daughter Olivia were all sound asleep. Sometime in the night Kimberly heard Toby stomp his foot five times then stop, so she went back to sleep.
When she awoke she saw the mess downstairs. Cupboards opened, drawers with contents out and a bunch of gift sets, perfume and other valuables were laid out on the sofa. Missing here an iPad, a laptop and her Great-Grandfather’s World War 2 medal. They called police and both them and the nurse think Toby’s thumping scared the intruder away.
“We think that when the rabbit thumped it scared the burglar off and they left all the stuff they were going to take.” she says. “He’s (Toby) like a little dog, if you whistle him he comes.”
Toby weighs about 10 pounds (4.5kg) and spends the night in his cage which is big enough to fit a medium sized dog. However, he too is shaken up by the ordeal.
“The rabbit was just traumatized in his cage, shaking. He’s usually really friendly but he tried to go for the policeman.” says May.
Toby has been rewarded for his guard dog like qualities.
“We’re so proud of him we’ve rewarded him with a new tunnel to play with… It’s a cat’s tunnel obviously because he needs a big one.”
