Apparently in the UK the new thing is Muay Thai Boxing for your kids. For your young kids. While I agree that sports are good for kids, competitions and boxing matches that make your 5-year old scream and cry in fear just can’t be.

Muay Thai Boxing is practiced by a lot of younger children in South East Asia and it is a wonderful form of exercise, so it’s understandable it’s become so popular.

In the UK there are more than 500 registered clubs. Kids enrolled in Muay Thai Boxing in the UK will have school homework, 15km runs, 400 sit ups and about 10 hours of training. None of this is really that bad – when it’s age appropriate.

BUT when the kids is begging and crying to not get in the ring isn’t this a sign your kid isn’t enjoying the sport? Isn’t it a sign your kid might be scarred from the whole experience? Isn’t a sign that you might want to sign your little girl up for ballet instead?

For many families in South East Asia, Muay Thai Kick Boxing matches between kids is a way to earn money for the family. That’s not the case in the UK. So why force your baby to do something they’re obviously not wanting to do?

You know, sometimes what the parent wants isn’t always what’s best for the child. Just because it’s exercise doesn’t mean it’s the best thing for your child. [Daily Mail]
