French man, “Millionaire” audience demonstrate disturbing lack of scientific knowledge

In fairness, there could be a few responses to the question, what rotates around the Earth. What with all the man-made stuff in orbit and all – but none of those things were any of the multiple choice options to this question. Our intellectually challenged contestant is right that the answer is clearly not Venus or Mars; but he has trouble when it comes to the Sun and the Moon. So too does more than half of the audience.

It just goes to show that you don’t need to be a genius to go on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and you certainly don’t need to be a genius to sit in the audience. With that in mind, you would think that people would be a little more careful in taking that lifeline.

After the jump: watch an IRS tax collector restore your faith in humanity – granted he is American and doesn’t restore your faith in French contestants – but still, that he uses no lifelines and the little surprise move he pulls at the end of the last video make for an amusing contrast.
