American Marissa Evans is excited to be a grandmother. She’s paid $29,000 to a Mexican surrogate mother, handpicked by her, to have her son’s baby. Thing is her son is dead.
21-year old Nikolas Evans died in 2009 after sustaining a life-threatening brain injury during a fight outside a bar in Austin, Texas. On life support for 5 days, Marissa, 44 was devastated when she had to make the decision was made to pull the plug. But she also made sure she collected some of Nikolas’ sperm before she did.
Her reasoning? Not only did she want to be a grandmother her son wanted to be a father. They had been talking about it just the weekend before the tragic incident.
“The weekend before he died we were talking about what a great dad he would be. And we were saying I’d be a good grandma too. Then just a week later all that suddenly changed.”
Getting approval of the law first (a judge ruled it OK to harvest some of her son’s sperm for the impregnation) she’s now on the way to getting what she dreamed of. And in a way, she’s got a piece of her son too.
Which is both touching and creepy all at the same time. Even fiction might not be able to beat this one. Try explaining this one to the offspring:
kid: Where’s Mommy?
grandma: She’s in Mexico, somewhere. We hired her to give you life.
kid: Where’s Daddy?
grandma: He’s in Heaven.
kid: Did Mommy know Daddy?
grandma: No sweetie, he died before you were conceived.
kid: But then…wow. That’s not how they teach this stuff in school.

Ok, so we basically have the mother’s word that she supposedly had a conversation with her son about what a great dad he would be and what a great grandma she would be. Presumably no record of that conversation. On that basis she is legally allowed to essentially rape her comatose son to get sperm to put in some woman she’s hiring to provide her with a grandson. Creepy does not begin to cover that.
I’d imagine that it wasn’t a manual stimulation (i.e. jerking him off) can’t they get the sperm with a needle or something? I can’t imagine the law saying “Sure, go ahead and jerk your son off while he’s in a coma!” since that’s kind of illegal. Still weird and creepy though.
I hate it when people use the term rape for things that aren’t rape. It makes people take actual rape less seriously.

I can’t believe she is doing this. A dad who dies in a BAR FIGHT, probably would have been a sh1tty dad anyway. Oh yeah, now the baby will grow up without a father to boot. That grandmother is insane for raping her dead son too. Good thing these people are having babies…..

OK, joking aside: cancer patients will sometimes donate their sperm just before they go into chemo, so when they are done they can later conceive. I remember a story about a mom who made her 15 year old son donate sperm before his chemotherapy. When the sperm used to impregnate his wife.
