Dubai, home to everything expensive and extravagant, will now be home to the world’s first underwater hotel. Dubbed the Water Discus Underwater Hotel, the fancy flophouse will feature a section with 21 rooms, a “dive center” and a bar, all 10 meters below the surface of the sea. A unique lighting system will make way for an extraordinary viewing experience of the surrounding scene, and macro-photography will allow guests to zoom in on whatever is floating about the Persian Gulf. The above-sea portions of the hotel are said to be suspended high enough to avoid damage from Tsunamis and/or flooding, and the underwater disc pictured above is engineered to surface in the event of impending danger. And if there’s a leak, well then you’re dead. The hotel is the brainchild of design firm Deep Ocean Technology, and is slated to be the first of many of it’s kind. And since it’s in Dubai, you probably can’t afford it.
