1980’s singer, 51-year-old homosexual Liverpudlian Pete Burnes, revealed recently that he’s had yet another face lift, despite previous procedures maiming him to an extent he thought his face would ‘fall off’ and he’d have to have his lips amputated.
Although most are now removed, he unveiled his ‘new face’ with a myriad of facial piercings along his eyebrows, forehead and cheekbones.
Previously he’d won £450,000 in damages from cosmetic surgeon Dr Maurizio Viel, with claims he had become ‘suicidal’ after his lip implant operations went wrong.
It didn’t deter him for long. He confessed:
My most recent overhaul was about a month ago. I had a minor face lift and my eyes slanted. I also have regular peels and Botox. It’s something I’ll always do. People redecorate their homes every few years and I see this as no different. Changing my face is like buying a new sofa. I had piercings all over my face, which did look dreadful, but I got them done while waiting for my husband Michael to get a tattoo. I was bored.’
His first surgery was a nose job in the 1980s, when he fronted a band called Dead Or Alive. That operation also went wrong leaving his nose so crooked he could no longer wear sunglasses. Obviously he was a ‘real’ trouper, and was not deterred by the experience. He went on to have an implant in his top lip, then filler injections.
Then, things started becoming scary for the one time celebrity. In 2004 an infection set in, which saw his lips swell to 18 inches.
My doctor punctured it and the yellow discharge that came out filled two mugs. I was put on antibiotics but my whole face began to swell. I was housebound for nine months and couldn’t move my head – discharge would pour out.
Eventually, he lost his Notting Hill Home and was forced to sell his music catalogue.
Although he was unable to eat normally for nearly a year, he said he would continue to go under the knife and insisted:
I don’t feel like I’m addicted to surgery. I could leave it alone for long periods of time if I wanted…I’ll wait another couple of years before my next overhaul…my face might fall off!
I would respectfully suggest that Pete look up the definition of addiction: The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or involved in something.
Sounds like addiction to me.
