Accidentally ski into a mother bear’s lair… that’s a mauling

A 12-year-old Swedish boy was lucky to survive an encounter with a protective mother bear on his last ski trip in Funäsdalen, northern Sweden – when a wrong turn sent him into a bear’s lair, that was occupied by a mother and three cubs.

The subsequent mauling only ended when young Olle Frisk played dead and his three friends were able to scare the mother bear off. Olle is now recovering in hospital after being bitten on both legs and clawed on his back.

Authorities are waiting to see if the bear returns to her cubs. If not, they will be transferred to an animal sanctuary.
