How do you get back at the ex-wife who broke your heart and left you lonely? Leave her nothing in your will and make your staff rich instead.

That’s what music mogul, Alan Meltzer did. The multi-millionaire died at the age of 67 and left one million to his chaffeur and $500,000 to his Park Avenue doorman. His kindness was well appreciated by both men.

“I don’t know what to do exactly with the money, but one thing I know for sure — every year, I’m going to bring the guy some flowers at his grave,” Jean Laborde, the 54-year old chaffeur, told the New York Post. It seems the two had a genuine friendship. Larborde praises his former boss for his humour and “never looking down” on others.

“He was such a nice guy. He left me money, but it’s not a good deal for me because it means he’s no longer here,” he said.

The doorman, Chamil Demiraj, spoke equally highly of him. “He was a generous guy. He was a really good friend of mine, and I was a good friend of his. It’s a surprise. Peace and rest to him. That’s all I can say.”

His ex-wife Diana, to whom he was married for more than 13 years, holds a different opinion of the man. When asked what she thought about his generously rewarding his staff she replied, “If he wants to give it to the bums, he can give it to the bums. He could f–k a nun. I couldn’t give a s–t. He can give his money to whoever he wants. We’re divorced. The man is dead.”

Meltzer made his 10 million fortune running New York based Wind-Up Records and was a regular on the celebrity poker circuit.  [NY Post
