On Thanksgiving, there’s plenty of sites with historical significance, like Plymouth Rock.  And then there’s places with zero historical significance but a name nonetheless, like Turkey, Texas.

But evidently, PETA does not take lightly to towns named after delicious birds and has requested that, for Thanksgiving Day, Turkey change its name to Tofurky.  The letter is fairly predictable, arguing that domestic turkeys suffer inhumane treatment.  The request doesn’t come without favorable terms, of course – PETA has promised the entire city a vegan holiday feast should they agree.

Nonetheless, PETA isn’t holding their breath, since a) this is Texas and b) “Residents told Amarillo’s KVII-TV that they are opposed to the name change.”  Well, that pretty much settles it, right? [Source; Image]
