Ontario squirrels exported to Quebec?

Ontario’s Westboro inhabitants have been illegally exporting squirrels to Quebec, according to the Ottawa Citizen. Homeowners in Westboro (ON), across the river from Gatineau (QC) have been trapping and dropping off squirrels in Gatineau because apparently squirrels aren’t known for their swimming swaggery, nor are they able to climb onto the metallic bridge that separates Ontario from Quebec.

Ontario law is clear though, it’s unlawful to transport wild animals more than 1km and this is to prevent disease from spreading.

I know, you’re used to funnier stories from yours truly, and this one’s no different because although as such, the trapping and transport of the relatively innocuous critters is not exactly Jim Carrey material, Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources’ reaction was as he asked: “Are they French speaking squirrels?”

Which goes to show the ignorance of our elected officials across Canada, imagine that: According to the Ontario Minister of Natural Resources, nobody in Quebec speaks English.

I must be foreign…
